Great Scottish Run Half Marathon & 10km Races. Glasgow. Sunday 5 September 2010.
Crossing the Kingston Bridge.
The Glasgow half marathon and 10km races are justifiably popular and this year was no different. Around 9,000 and 8,000 runners took part in each race respectively and while the weather was a bit humid at times, it stayed dry throughout, with a good turn-out from ERNs and friends. The routes start at George Square and finish at Glasgow Green and the runs are very well organised, friendly and scenic. If you haven’t considered these races before, give them a go. They are great early autumn events and are highly recommended. Well done in particular to all those that ran a half marathon for the first time and/or got a PB. Thanks also to Tracy for going through to support and take photos - much appreciated. Times and photos at Glasgow.
Penrith Triathlon. The Lake District, England. Sunday 29 August 2010.

The ERN Triathlon Ladies - Krista and Tracy
Krista Black and Tracy Paterson travelled cross-border to take part in the Penrith Triathlon. This event run by Eden District Council comprised a 400m pool swim started in waves, a 22km bike loop on open roads and a 5km run on adjacent fields. An excellent event by all accounts, welcoming athletes of all abilities. Well done to both and Tracy’s 10th in category with a dodgy Achilles is of particular note. Details at Penrith Triathlon.
ERN Summer Runs: Leith Victoria Baths. Sunday 29 August 2010.

As you can see it was a bit sunny at times!
Nineteen runners turned up at Leith Victoria Baths to run either the seven, eleven or twenty mile routes that were available. Some new faces including Jennifer, Peter and Alan. Alan had travelled from New York City and took the chance of a 20 mile circuit of the city while here (while admirable, it should be noted that meeting ERN was not his only reason for crossing the Atlantic). The weather stayed dry although it got a bit dark and was breezy at times. Good run and training for the upcoming Autumn races.
The Speyside Way Ultra Race. Highlands. Saturday 28 August 2010

Approaching the finish - Phil gets directions from Elly.
Well done to Phil Humphries who completed his second Ultra race of the year. Phil completed the 35.5 mile course in a superb 5.40.52 in 25th place (tbc). A well organised, enjoyable and friendly race, you can read his report at The Speyside Way.
ERN LP Run. Saughton Running Track, Edinburgh. Sunday 22 August 2010.

And they're off!

Chris, Les, Aicha, Heather and a relaxing Alan at the post-LP Run BBQ.
The first annual ERN LP run was a great success! Good weather and brilliant organisation along with a unique running event in the Scottish Calendar, a hotly contested baking competition and a relaxing post-event BBQ made for a great day out. Many thanks to the organisers (photographed above) for all their efforts. Details and photos at The ERN LP Run.
ERN Summer Run: Leith Victoria Baths. Saturday 21 August 2010.

Eirwen, Phil, Karen, George, Jo, Chris, Catherine with Mike (on camera)
Eight runners turned up at Leith Victoria Baths for an 11 mile run on Saturday. For some it was training for the Loch Ness Marathon, for others it was a tune-up for the LP run on the following day. A lovely run by all accounts.
ERN Summer Runs: "The 4 Tops & The 3 Degrees". Sunday 15 August 2010.

Arthur's Seat (823 ft)
Following requests for a hillier Sunday run to help with training for the Glasgow Half, Geneva, Loch Ness and the Kilomathon, 17 ERNs turned up to tackle either the 7 mile “3 Degrees” or 15 mile “4 Tops” route. The weather was a bit hazy to begin with as the runners left Meadowbank to tackle Arthur's Seat, Calton Hill and Castle Hill but that started to burn off and it was clear and hot by the time they’d started the return leg from the Castle. Murdo and Denise went on to tackle the “4 Tops” by taking in Corstorphine Hill via a visit to the Gallery of Modern Art to admire the landscaped lawn! Certainly fulfilled the hill training bit although the hot weather also had drawn out the festival crowds, especially along Princes Street and at the Castle, necessitating a return for both routes via the Cowgate instead of the busy Royal Mile. Stunning scenery and a different kind of route made for a good run. Thanks to Heather for the routes. Photos at "The 4 Tops & The 3 Degrees".
