Unusually it wasn’t windy on the 1st. However the rest of the weather was much the same, cold & dreich. The lack of wind meant that the rain came down the way, instead of the usual horizontal driving sleet/rain. Having had a year of recovering from injury, I decided to do this when nothing else got in the way.

After many years of running virtually the same speed - about 34 minutes - last year I trained specifically & knocked 2 minutes off my time.

This year I didn’t train at all - not big & not clever - and my time was 34.30 something (actually 34.38. Gordon did 28.59 and Grace did 35.54 - Ed)

The prom never looks as long as immediately before the start & at the 2 miles sign. It’s a good way to start the year. Cheap, cheerful & very local for most of us. Well done to the marshals & the organisers who do a great job every year. It’s not every race you pay your money through a taxi - with 4 people crammed in, but it seems to work.

Happy new year.
