STARRETT JEDBURGH RUNNING FESTIVAL.

SUNDAY 25th OCTOBER 2009.

Jedburgh Abbey

Well done to everyone that took part in the Jedburgh Running Festival. This incorporated the 8th annual running of the Jedburgh Half Marathon along with, for the first time, an accompanying 10km race. The rain abated long enough for the races although it still remained damp. Unfortunately the wind didn’t and a strong headwind slowed and tired the runners on the return leg of this out-and-back course. Both races are run on scenic and rural courses, although undoubtedly humply in bits, with the events being run simultaneously using some of the same route. A good, if hard, run in the Borders - recommended.

Gillian said:   The Jedburgh 10km was a different experience from Saturday's 5km park run. A race on a much larger scale. Having done the halfie there quite often I decided to give the 10k a go for a change. Nobody had told me thay kept all the hilly bits from the halfie in the 10k course and removed the long flat straights. Between that and the wind I found it one tough race. Bit chaotic collecting your number before hand (compulsory they don't post them out). With hundreds of runners all flooding in round about the same time - maybe time to hire a bigger hall. But changing facilities for the ladies were top notch, in the local swimming pool just across the road from registration hall. Loos, lockers, showers and a reduced rate for a swim if you had time to hang around after. Failing that you could eat the Mars Bar, cereal bar and fruit bar out the goodie bag and admire your big solid medal whilst getting driven home. Good value for a £10. And although I was puffing to much to appreciate it I'm told it was a very scenic course. Watch time was 57.50 which will do me fine on a day and course like that.
