HADDINGTON 5 MILE RACE. EAST LOTHIAN

SATURDAY 5th JUNE 2010.

Neil and Gillian

Neil and Gillian represented ERN at the Haddington 5 miler. Not a flat course and the weather was very hot this year but it's a very friendly and well organised event. Thanks to all at Haddington and East Lothian Pacemakers - H.E.L.P.

"Hi, I went down to Haddington yesterday to do the annual 5 mile race. A first for me.  It starts and finishes in the same field that Haddington Gala is taking place in which makes for a nice atmosphere. There's a tent in the middle of the field where you can enter on the day for a tenner, and leave your kit whilst running. Lovely rural route, mostly flat, except for a short sharp hill at the beginning; well at least it gets it over with; and a never ending incline at mile 2.  It was a walker for many people, including me, it was such a hot day, I have even more respect for people that did the marathon in similar conditions two weeks ago now. Last 2 miles were much more enjoyable. I was heading back and what had gone up in the first half was now heading down. Staggered over the finishing line in 47.33 which was a personal worst for a 5 miler but in these conditions I wasn't bothered.   Even the mars bar I got at the end (along with a medal and orange juice) had melted in the sun!!  Heat didn't seem to bother Neil though.  He went round in 30.45.  Other two friends in photos I think you know. Mike Anderson (31.58) and Steve Blair (36.02) both from Corstorphine Running Club.  It’s a nice wee race though and I'd recommend it for a pleasant after noon out.

Regards

Gillian"
