EDINBURGH TO NORTH BERWICK 20 MILE ROAD RACE

SATURDAY 2nd MAY 2009

This race is traditionally a 22 mile event but due to road works was shortened to 20 miles this year. A very good lead-in event to those running marathons in late May (Edinburgh etc) but also an excellent event in its own right. The weather this year was sunny and with a light tail wind - perfect. A good, long-established run with five ERNs taking the opportunity to stretch their legs and see how their training was going!

Aicha said: "The Edinburgh-North Berwick Race was a great experience. The organisation was very good and the race went very smoothly. The course, at 20 miles, was perfect as part of marathon training and because it was mainly flat you could focus on just getting the miles in and not having to battle up any hills. The route mainly followed the coastal road through East Lothian so there was bonny scenery to keep the spirits lifted. You could bring your own drinks which the marshalls laid out at the water stations which was really helpful in the warm weather and meant you could have exactly what you wanted to drink. I would say the atmosphere was quite serious but the crowd was very friendly and the spectators were very encouraging, even turning out with jelly beans and drinks at points. The only thing that I would have changed was to provide a snack at the end as there was only juice and water. However, as the buses back to Edinburgh left from the sports centre which had a cafe we didn't starve!"
