ERN SUNDAY RUN SERIES
THE 4 HILLS, EDINBURGH. SUNDAY 17th MAY 2009
Approaching the summit of Blackford Hill with the Braid Hills in the background
Following a suggestion by Willie Stobie, 12 ERNs set off to run 4 of the 7 Hills of Edinburgh. Meeting at the Dean Gallery meant plenty of parking and the incentive of an excellent cafe on completion. The weather was perfect; sunny with a light breeze and Fi, Brendan, Elly, Phil, Aicha, Fiona, Chris, George, Willie, Tracy, Susie and Murdo made the most of it.
The run was unusual, taking in pavements, trails and grass not to mention a few scrabbles through the gorse and even a river (ok, a stream!) crossing. Excellent fun, some great views and something a bit different while also being great training. The route took in Corstorphine Hill (162m), Craiglockhart Hill (175m), Braid Hills (213m) and finally, Blackford Hill (164m).
9 ERNs completed the 12.5 mile course while 3 completed a slightly shorter 9.5 mile course. Everyone met up afterwards at the Dean Gallery for scoff and agreed it had been a good day out. Thanks to Willie for the route which may have inspired some runners to enter the real thing; the 7 Hills Race on 21 June.
