Donkey Brae 7 Mile Race. Aberdour, Fife. Sunday 1 August 2010.

Congratulations to all the runners that took part in the Donkey Brae 7 mile race, the 2 mile race or the fun run. This is an ERN Summer Series qualifying event and one of ERN's favourite races. A great turn-out of ERNs and friends took part or turned out to support (Nicola, Wendy, Gillian, Roger, Laurie, Alan, Aicha, James, Jon, Steve, Scott, Karen, Karen and Fi). The weather was hot, even hotter than usual, and the course is not flat! Strange how you remember that last climb but forget that it's a humply course for the rest of the way as well! Didn't, however, stop a number of runners setting excellent PB's (including first-timers). The race itself is a scenic, humply, run out through Aberdour to Dalgety Bay and back; down to the shore and fields, out and back on a variety of cycle-tracks, park roads and streets before the climb up the infamous Donkey-Brae (not as bad as you think) to finish at the festival/farmers market and marquee where a good crowd welcomed all home.

Just after everyone had finished, and as they were setting off to organise the annual ERN BBQ, the heavens opened scattering people to take shelter in cars or the event marquees. Since it continued to rain, the BBQ was postponed to a later day but it didn't take the shine of an excellent friendly race. As always, many thanks to all at Aberdour Festival. We'll be back next year.
